Primary Care – MBS Telehealth Services

Temporary Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) and Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) items will allow doctors, nurses and mental health professionals to deliver services via telehealth, provided those services are bulk billed.

Why is this important?

The new MBS items will allow all medicare eligible patients access to essential health services in their home with the aim of reducing their risk of exposure to COVID-19 whilst in the community.

Who benefits?

The new medicare telehealth items have been made available to reduce the risk of community transmission of COVID-19 and provide protection for patients and health care providers.

For telehealth appointments, patients under the age of 16 or concession card holders will be bulk billed Monday – Friday before 5pm.  All other telehealth appointments may be privately billed.
